About Our School

Albion North Primary School is located in a residential area in Sunshine North, approximately 10 kilometres west of Melbourne. The school was established in 1962. In 2009 our enrollment is approximately 230 students. The school has a pleasant appearance with spacious playing areas which include grassed playing fields, games courts, a covered outdoor play area, an adventure playground, jumping pits, shady garden areas, vegetable garden, orchard and an enclosed courtyard. We are proud of the multi-cultural nature of our school community.
The school has two main classroom buildings that house the air-conditioned classrooms with interactive whiteboards and the administration area. Special purpose rooms include library, art/craft, Mathematics, ESL room, Italian, canteen, and a multi-purpose room used for indoor PE, Perceptual Motor Program, music, drama, visiting performers and community activities. We have seven new classrooms, multi-purpose room, canteen and toilets.
Albion North has been a leader in developing Integrated Curriculum, based on the Victorian Essential Learning Stands: Physical, Personal and Social Learning. Discipline based Learning and interpersonal Learning. State of the art technology assists learning throughout the curriculum.
Literacy and
Mathematics are the major focii for the school. Reading Recovery supports early intervention in
literacy. The Early Years Literacy Program has provided a basis to lift the
educational outcomes of all students, particularly in the first three years of
schooling. The school is a leader in implementing Reading Recovery, providing
students in need with the ability to succeed in life. All children are able to
develop their artistic abilities through a comprehensive Arts curriculum,
including Visual Arts, instrumental music, dance and drama. The Western
Metropolitan region generously provides student services support, including
counselling and guidance services and speech therapy. A specialist Physical
Education teacher provides lessons for all children.

The caring and stimulating environment encourages students to participate in a wide range of programs to develop all areas of their growth – academic, physical, emotional and social. Students excel in their achievements and behaviour. The highly competent, dedicated and caring staff provide outstanding educational programs for all our students.
Parents participate in a many ways – in School Council and decision making committees, organising functions and fund raising activities, helping run school programs, developing activity centres, supporting literacy programs, attending excursions, selling uniforms and helping in classrooms. Our active School and Community Committee organises many functions and raises money for equipment and programs.
Cooperative planning is a feature of the school, as are the students' friendliness and enthusiasm, energy, commitment and ability of staff and parents. Our motto, Learn By Doing emphasises students' active participation. Children love to come to this school.
