Context

Established in 1962, Albion North Primary School is located in a residential area in North Sunshine, approximately ten kilometres west of Melbourne.  The school has a pleasant appearance with spacious grounds which include grassed playing fields, games courts, a covered outdoor play area, an adventure playground, jumping pits, shady gardens and an enclosed courtyard.  Albion North has two well-appointed main buildings which house the classrooms and administration areas, a free standing library and a canteen.  Special purpose rooms include art/craft, resources (computers and curriculum resources), a LOTE room, a multi-purpose room (used for indoor physical education, the Perceptual Motor Program, music, drama, visiting performers and community activities), a reading recovery room and a conference room.

The school’s curriculum emphasises the importance of literacy and numeracy, which are school priorities.  The Early Years Literacy Program operates in Prep to Year 4, focussing on Reading and Writing. Components of the Middle Years Literacy Program will be implemented in Years 5 & 6 during the period of this Charter.  The school has adopted an enriching and comprehensive approach to the delivery of curriculum through Integrated Studies.  Individual student differences are catered for through both intervention and extension programs.

Albion North Primary School takes pride in the delivery of an effective whole school program that emphasises strong interpersonal relationships between students, the building of self-esteem, working cooperatively and resolving conflict.  Staff work together, along with parents and outside agencies, to provide a whole school approach to welfare issues that arise.


Future Plans

Curriculum

Albion North Primary School wishes to continue to improve student outcomes by building on the strong foundations in English and Mathematics whilst continuing to enhance other key learning areas.  The continued use of learning technology will be a key component of curriculum delivery.
