Section 4.4 Community Building

Albion North Primary School recognises the importance of maintaining a positive and interactive relationship between the community and the school.  The school values all parents and guardians, the local business sector and district organisations as part of the school community.  The school attempts to provide an innovative and stimulating learning environment to address the needs of all students.  In return, the school seeks the support of the local community.

Albion North Primary School relies on a close liaison with the community to:

  • Support school rules, Codes of Practice and decisions made by the school.
  • Ensure that news of current school events is disseminated throughout the community.
  • Support fundraising activities and social events.
  • Be involved in programs and activities of the school (eg classroom reading, school excursions, swimming, etc).
  • Follow school procedure concerning any matters which relate to the children of the school.
  • Support the staff in encouraging tolerance and respect for others.
  • Keep emergency information on children current.
  • Encourage children and neighbourhood to respect the school and its property (eg through working bees).
  • Receive input into school policy through open forums as needed.

Albion North Primary School seeks the assistance of the business sector and local organisations in:

  • Supporting fund raising activities.
  • Extending resources of the school.
  • Promotion of school activities.
  • Improving the image and appearance of the school.

Albion North Primary School will keep the community informed by:

  • A regular newsletter.
  • A weekly school assembly.
  • Open days, information sessions and public meetings.
  • Information displays throughout the school and at appropriate public venues (eg Sunshine Plaza).
  • Twice yearly written reports.
  • Parent/teacher interviews.
  • Provision of interpreters when required.
  • A published Annual Report.
  • Partnership and liaison with other local schools as appropriate (eg transition information).
  • Publication of brochures and information booklets.
  • Press releases to the local media when appropriate.

Albion North Primary School will facilitate community response through:

  • School Council and Subcommittee meetings.
  • Parent Opinion Surveys.
  • Encouraging an open door approach to the community.
